Irrimiri's Adventures

Right off the bat, it uses Live Journal to organize the archives (I can only thing of one other LJ-based comic I let through). The topic is nothing new: a witch with a talking cat. Everything from novels to children's books to television has had one of those. As for the art? it's the normal black & white line art. So why am I sitting here recommending it?

Well, the LJ implementation doesn't actually hurt anything in this case. A link is thoughtfully provided with each post linking back to to beginning. That reconciles my largest complaint with LJ for a webcomic (and after that, I have to admit LJ provides nice features including no 404s and dates on each entry). Also there are no extraneous posts.

Moving on to the subject matter, after only a few strips the difference becomes obvious: while the cat talks, no other character does (including the human). The remaining characters use a few rationed symbols, and incredibly expressive body language. Narrowed eyes, locked teeth, forget those silly anime-# anger marks. With shortcuts taken at every turn in webcomics, what could be more inspiring than that?

Finally art-wise, black lines are nearly exclusively used. A spot of color does appear once or twice and made even more effective by its routine absence. Though the ordinary strips are of incredible quality. The drawings are well-detailed, however they fall well short of crowding out the image (as well as the text). Nor are there extraneous lines, no patterned grayscales, just crisp and clean black.

You've probably waited long enough for the URL.
