In a few cases I manage to start collecting the highlights before my first pass is finished. I've never had my interest caught with the first comic. Faulty Logic however grabbed me by the second; I started writing before the first dozen were read. Page one was the classic self-referential comic. The type that I skip over without a second thought. The way all the 10-strip long boredom comics start. Page two was a mass of text. The type How Not To Run a Webcomic proudly displays. The kind of comic that usually gets a Ctrl-W before I'm past the first paragraph. Only this time, it was worth reading...and funny?
It doesn't end with the weekly page. The comments below aren't an ignorable blog or just a news post, but an extension of the comic above. The authors fit in a few extra jokes that complement the comic and finish off with a round of amusing banter. When a strip requires a little extra explanation, not only is it provided in the reader-friendly context of a conversation, not only is it kept clear of the comic's flow, but it's also amusing enough to support rather than detract. Faulty Logic's authors are funny enough to be above the rules. And luckily for us, they're a little shaky on when to stop. |
