So the price of gas has increased. With all the complaining and doomsday fantasies has anyone stopped to think of potential gains from this? I'll admit that many are the same oppertunities we've passed over before,

There are a number of ways we should have benefited from the rising price of gasolene. A number of whiners were exposed, but there have been several prior events pointing them out. The idiocy of politicians was demonstrated, but we already have seen their lack of economics beyond bartering for votes. The news media shows off their lack of intellegence every time they try to go beyond reporting, gas prices are just one more story. One important precident has been set. When I stop at a gas station, I pay a slightly higher price when paying outside using a credit card. For a few cents, I can avoid human interaction.

Belonging to many of the asocial subcultures, I highly value the choice to not deal with people. For a number of years it looked like things were going my way: commercial websites cut down the need to visit actual stores, FAQs and troubleshooting forums cut down on the number of tech support phone calls, I learned how to make pizza from scratch and so on. But then things started slipping backwards: all the new computer games have extensive multi-player functionality and internet speeds grew fast enough for real-time communications.

With the action in the middle east quieting down, why not fix the easy communication via the internet next? We've tolerated California too long anyway.
