Why Drive?

I finally got around to getting a driver's license. Not having anywhere to go, I didn't got for the permit until I was half-way through college. (Interestingly enough, after getting the permit I still didn't have anywhere to go and let things sit for another few years). Now that I have it, I just need to ask, is it really worth getting a driver's license?

As I think about it, there really isn't anywhere to go. Canada may have all the cheap pharmacudicals, but that brings in the aged croud. Also we've exported a good portion of our political wackos there. And there's no need to go to Mexico with all the Mexicans that are heading north.

And driving is just plain scary. Those squirrels don't just dart out onto the road randomly. They're ****ing playing chicken! No way those furry troublemakers are just trying to run up a familiar tree--I caught one running into the road then back off the same side. And then I came accross a pair sitting back to back in the middle of the road; I can only imagine what was going on...

"Two acorns! you'll dart first!"
"Done!"
.
*scamper, scamper*
.
"You knew it! You saw the car from the tree! You knew it was on my side!"

And it's not just those squirrels. When you come accross a bird in the middle of the road, what direction does it fly? Away from you? Off to the side? No! It goes right up and across your windshield.

"Just under a 5 sunflower seeds from the glass I believe."
"Humph. On the last car my wing touched it."
"Wormdirt! You always cast off before you're anywhere close."

With squirrels I might believe there's a legit reason to be crossing the road. But birds? There are no worms nor birdfeeders on the pavement. It was a side road too, no bits of string or shreaded grocery bags to tempt nestbuilders.
