Our conclusions in the previous editions of Metaphysical Economics mainly centered around the actions of the devil, mostly because god just doesn't do anything. So if god won't play nice with our models, we'll just have to show him what's what. Turning to free trade, there is none to speak of. Trade between heaven and earth is limited to grants and other forms of aid. Trade between hell and earth is restricted to an underground economy. Trade between heaven and hell is closed. None of these are healthy states.
Consider the African nations that we continue to provide loans and aid to. Most are entering another cycle of having their debt forgiven and new money dumped in. On the other hand look at China and India. Commercial and investment interests became strong and these countries are experiencing unprecedented GDP growth. Commercial interests demand a return on their investment. No such care is given to freely distributed aid. Consider the miracles people claim today, are they anything of lasting value?
Underground economies inflate prices and endanger consumers. Sellers have to charge a higher price owing to the difficulties of bringing their products to market. How else could a soul (which is said to be eternal and quite valuable) purchase only things of fleeting mortal value? Kept underground there is no quality control. Consumer's don't know what prices are exorbitant or which deals contain traps and they can't easily confer with their peers or a consumer group.
Finally think of the side benefits of free trade. The United States and China used to be enemies. In the Korean War it nearly came to a direct military conflict. In recent years, the economy of the United States has become integrated with that of China's. As a result the two countries have resolved a number of political differences. Could the same hold true if free trade was adopted between heaven and hell?
So which side has been holding up reconciliation? I'd just like to end by pointing out that the Devil was willing to make deals with just about anyone, up to and including God himself.
